What Magento screencast would you like to see?

Eric Clark · Dec 15, 2008 · 11 Comments

We see a need for not just additional screencasts that communicate about Magento via visible media…but we want to produce screencasts that will cover Magento from every usability angle. Whether you’re an admin user, a designer, developer, or marketing guru – we want to create videos that make your life easier when working with Magento.

So, what screencasts would you like to see? Drop us a comment and let us know…

Great idea and a good potential Magento resource. I’d like to see a screen cast on how to add extra registration/customer fields in the proper Magento way. There is a wiki article but it changes core files. I’m sure this can be done more elegantly via the local/mycompany namespace. Also, how to show the extra attributes on the admin back-end and the customer account. (I.e one useful one would be Mobile Phone Number).

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Advanced import of products (without altering source CSV files) or how to setup data flow to and from distributors.

I second the idea of a screencast on adding additional customer fields / registration fields. This is pretty important for quite a few people.

    Hello,

I’m new to Magento and still working my way around it, but a screencast on “How to import products from an MS Excel format”, would be helpful to beginners like myself. : )

    Regards,

    Tony

Would like to see how to create modern ecommerce features seen on large ecommerce websites like the navigation menu on http://www.ae.com or http://www.moosejaw.com. Especially would like to learn how to create a “quick view” module for Magento on category pages like the aforementioned websites. Thanks for asking and keep up the good work.

    Hi All,
Thanks for all the input! We’re taking some time to allow for some more community feedback here prior to getting some video tutorials out. Having a better understanding of the community need will allow us to better shape in what manner we’ll roll out with these video tuts.

Keep the ideas coming, and thanks for your patience!

    Cheers,
    Lee

+1 for magento extension screencast. although, doesn’t have to be a new payment gateway as this topic is covered in the wiki.

I would love to see something on how to add custom order attribute fields in the database and how to call those fields from the api.
